Costumes at Comic-Con Part 2

Last week I talked about our costumes and all the little ways you can dress up at Comic-con with the free stuff you get. This week is dedicated to all the people I saw who had awesome cosplays. Above is me and the sibs posing with Shawn of the Dead who looks eerily like Simon Pegg. In fact, when my brother and I went to the screening for The World's End, this guy was there in this costume, and Simon Pegg just stopped what he was saying and exclaimed "Hey look! It's me!"

Jamie Lannister

I love to people watch. That's probably part of the reason I like amusement parks so much. There is no better people watching that at Comic-con. It's part of what makes waiting in line for 10 hours and then never getting into the panel you wanted bearable. You're constantly being entertained by people's creativity and dedication to their costumes.

Beaker!

While weaving in and out of the line for Hall H, we definitely saw a lot of awesome costumes. You can never go wrong with Muppets.

Here is somebody doing Pride & Prejudice & Zombies right! Muddy skirt, brain in hand, bloody hand print - the works! (The brain is actually a clutch and I bought one when I got home because who doesn't need a brain clutch?)

More Game of Thrones Action!

I loved seeing all of the Game of Thrones cosplay. Now that I finally caught up on the show, I could actually understand who everyone was!

Avatar!

Avatar is another show that I watched between this year and last. We sat in on the Legend of Korra panel and it looked pretty cool, as did all of the costumes. So I decided to add Avatar to my ever growing "shows I need to watch" list. I'm pretty sure I watched the whole series in 3 weeks. It's always great when you can stream things for FREE!!

Seeing hobbits always makes me a little giddy. I do love a good group cosplay!

Portal

I didn't even know what this was when I took a picture of it. I was just like "ooh weird moon shoes!" Thank god for my brother who plays video games and can explain who all the people are!

I love when people cross dress. A guy as Hit Girl!? Hilarious. I saw a lot of women Doctor's that were fantastic.

It's fun to see people thinking outside of the box. This girl dressed up as black and white Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. So clever! Here are a bunch we saw walking around the floor:

Cosmo and Wanda!

Headless Horseman

Woody and Bo Peep

DINOSAUR!!!

I need to get me a TARDIS dress.

Even better is when you see people in Cosplay just wandering around downtown.

Lolz.

For when you need a good night time costume!

Chelsea and Tristan found Booker! It's always great to find characters from the same universe as you.

And last but not least - we found Shawn again. This time dressed as a Steampunk Shawn. Lovely. Here's a great video that Sneaky Zebra made after the con. You'll see a lot of these people in it. The song is also fantastic.

Is it July 2014 yet??

Nerdy Valentines

I wanted to hand-make valentines again this year - but time was not on my side. I did manage to get a baking night in with my friend Megan (look for that post tomorrow!). Geek & Sundry posted some amazing LOTR valentines on Facebook yesterday. I should have printed them out and sent them around!!

I mean - aren't the BRILLIANT!?!?! Then I searched the internets for my favorite Doctor Who valentines and found a few gems.

Seriously - next year everyone will be getting valentines themed around all of my favorite movies/TV shows printed out on cardstock. Man I love the internet.

How Many Did You Eat?

Last weekend I hosted our second annual Lord of the Rings marathon. All 3 extended versions of the movies = 13 hours of awesomeness! I had a lot of fun planning out the menu though we did have to combine a few of the meals for time's sake.

First Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies
- Sausage
- Bacon
- Hard-boiled Eggs
- Grape tomatoes
- Cheese Cubes

Lunch, Tea
- Finger Sandwiches
- Cherry Scones with clotted cream and jam
- Chicken Curry Balls
- Strawberries & Cream

Dinner, Supper
- Stew
- Croissant rolls
- Cake
- Cream Puffs

And then of course for snack there was Lembas bread! If you don't know what that is, let Legolas here explain it to you:

Lembas bread is typically wrapped in Mallorn leaves. I found a pattern for the leaves and a delicious recipe here. The website suggests making the leaves with craft foam, but I used cardstock.

I bought a pack of different shades of green and I think they turned out really nice. I drew the spines on the leaves with a green highlighter (on both sides so it looked more like an actual leaf.) Then I wrapped the bread up and tied it with some twine. It was a great snack in between meals. And the leftovers made a nice addition to my breakfast the next morning. More pictures of the party and a link to the drinking game we played after the jump!

Time to Get Creative

There are so many fun things coming up! This weekend I'm hosting our annual Lord of the Rings Marathon. You may remember the Hobbit cake I made for it last year. The Legolas die-cutout is ready and waiting at my house and I just have to finalize the menu for a full day of eats. I think I'm going to try to make the Eye of Sauron cupcakes. I also found a recipe for Lembas bread that I'm pretty excited about!

The palace has announced that Kate is due in July! That means I can start planning a royal baby shower! I'm going to do some sort of tea party. Luckily I have a while to figure out the menu for that!

The Princes Half is approaching way faster than I am prepared for. Since I don't like to dwell on how out of shape I am, I'm just going to focus on what really matters: my costume! I have a purple skirt procured from Team Sparkle. Now I just need to figure out a top and my hair! SO MUCH TO PLAN.
